There has been some confusion about the adjustments to the Roller Coaster project and with the extension of the Distance Learning until May 1st, so we want to clarify the information.
- The RC project is to be done at home with supplies you already have. We do not want anyone to go out and purchase or share materials. So, the final product will look very different than it would have otherwise. We understand that and grading will be adjusted. We want you to have this experience, but we don’t want it to overwhelm anyone.
- We will keep the due date as by May 1 (or before if you complete it earlier), and keep in mind that we will be VERY accommodating with our expectations. Will you need to bring in your RC? No, not required to at this point, but you can as an option if/when school resumes. Will we do a quad display? Probably not as planned, but we’ll see.
- It is now a maximum 2-person project. We know that many of you planned to do the project as a 3-person one, but since this is the main assignment for the entire isolation time, it is not enough science work for three people. (If you have already built yours (RC) with 3 people, then you will need to send us photos immediately and have personal discussion and parental verification of this.)
- We realize this is an adjustment for some, and perhaps not how you envisioned this project, but, no one would have envisioned that we would be isolated in our homes for perhaps 6 weeks. This has already been a stressful, strange year with the fires, and now this. It’s tough for everyone.
- The options provided earlier give you choices, but also challenges you to figure some things out on your own. In addition to building a roller coaster or a Rube Goldberg Machine, you will need to research the vocabulary terms, calculate the speed of your RC and put it together in a creative brochure or “flyer”. All doable over this time period.
- We are here to help. You can contact us during the day for immediate help or email anytime for less urgent needs.

- Grading. This is the tricky part. You will need to send us photos (or a video recording) of your RC, and send a doc of your brochure via Google classroom. If you do not have the ability to do that, then please contact us and we will figure something out. We want to be as accommodating as possible and also push you to figure things out. You may turn in your finished product anytime before the due date.
