What is NGSS? New standards that incorporate content, overarching concepts, and science and engineering practices aimed at all academic levels to provide students access to a challenging science education. It brings together Crosscutting Concepts, Science Practices, and Core content.
Crosscutting Concepts:
Matter and Energy,,,..Scale and Proportion.....Systems.....Patterns.....Cause and Effect.....Change and Stability.....Structure and Function
Science Practices:
*Ask questions
*Develop and use models
*Plan and carry out investigations
*Analyze and interpret data
*Use math and computational thinking
*Construct explanations
*Engage in argument from evidence
*Obtain, evaluate and communicate information
Core Content: Life Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Earth and Space Sciences and Physical Sciences

8th Science/Honors - In accordance with the Next Generation Science Standards NGSS and California Standards, this class will use objective, self-correcting methods of gathering and organizing information about the natural world. Students will be working closely with other students observing, experimenting and analyzing data..
In 8th grade, our theme is "Energy and Changes in the Physical World" and we will focus on the interactions of matter and energy, and their effect on planet Earth with particular attention to global climate.
Your Notebook - Your notebook is your lifeline in this class. Bring it everyday. Points will be totaled each quarter, but items will be graded along the way. I will maintain the notebook blog page with photos of daily entries. I will take a photo of only one period from MY notebook and this should be close to each class's entry as well. It will provide a framework of the material covered, but no answers. If you are absent, this is your best way to get material missed.
